One of the great international hoaxes, at least in my mind, is that Australia is filled with tanned surf gods and goddesses like an out-of-work Baywatch cast. Yet nothing could be further from the truth. Australia’s obesity problem is in line with the rest of the modern world and ranks only slightly behind the United States.

Obesity in Australia and Elsewhere

The Australian obesity statistic is roughly 60%. That equates to one in two men and one in three women. This is despite the fact we have more personal trainers and dieticians than ever. I have often thought the clearest sign that the fitness industry is failing is that personal training, as a profession, continues to rise, but obesity does, too.
