Opinions Are Like...Well, You Know: How to Find Solid Business Advice

Business, Coaching

"Opinions are like assholes, everybody’s got one." This is a phrase I have often heard coined and one that compelled me to write this piece. I am talking about taking advice or asking for it in any area of life. We are going to use a few examples to illustrate the point here, but they all work off the same premise.

Here are two possible goals, for argument’s sake:

  1. I want to build a business with a professional salary, good accounting metrics that any professional numbers guy (accountant) can testify to being great, and a decent quality of life. Meaning, I’m not working seventy hours per week and never getting any downtime.
  2. I want to split jerk 137.5kg/302.5lbs at a bodyweight of 90kg/200lbs with excellent form and deomonstrate movement technique that stands up to video critique by respected coaches.

A career as a coach or trainer is a never ending opportunity to learn, grow, and re-invent yourself.

You don’t get to pick the problems you solve because everyone who you come across is different: Different genders, ages, fitness levels, disposable time, disposable income, and almost always unsure of their commitment.

Here on Coaches Only we update the content regularly, we go in lots of different directions, and we engage with experts in all walks of life so long as they help coaches and trainers in pursuit of a fulfilling career.

There are no simple answers to how to be a good pro. No one can sell your services for you. There is no silver bullet for success.

That’s why you should sign up, be present, and when the opportunity arises, also take the initiative to contribute to the conversation.
