How to Cure a "Motor Idiot"

I was inspired to write this article because of a phrase that instructors sometimes use to illustrate a condition certain clients may have. The condition is called motor idiocy - a neurological state where a person has little to no ability to tell where his or her body is and what it's doing in space, a poor ability to translate verbal cues into movement, and a general lack of coordination.


As a trainer, I can say I've worked with people who had a minor case of motor idiocy and some people who had it big time. The condition can manifest regardless of how awesome your coaching is. But the good thing about motor idiocy is that it is completely and 100% reversible with time, effort, and a willingness to leave behind what was formerly believed to be set in stone - from both the coach and the client.
